Ford’s F-150 is undergoing a lightning recall due to steering and suspension problems

Ford has issued a recall for the 2024 F-150 Lightning due to a serious issue that could cause the loss of steering while driving. The problem is with the front suspension parts, which may not have been properly tightened at the factory. If these parts come loose, they could separate, leading to a dangerous accident.

This defect has been linked to one known accident, where the truck, traveling at 60 mph, crashed into a highway barrier. The truck had less than 700 miles on it and was missing a crucial upper control arm nut, causing the steering knuckle to separate. This prompted a wider investigation and recall.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) explained that the upper control arm nut might not have been tightened correctly due to issues with the tool used during assembly. As a result, the nut might not be properly secured, causing it to come loose.

Approximately 11,922 vehicles, built between November 6, 2023, and February 12, 2024, are affected. Owners will receive notification letters starting in early February. Dealers will inspect the affected parts and fix them at no cost.

If your F-150 Lightning is part of the recall, signs of the problem may include loose steering, unusual noises from the front suspension, or a shudder in the steering. If you notice any of these symptoms, it’s best to have your truck inspected by a dealer as soon as possible.
